This project is dedicated to the idea of mindful contemplation and social distance – the program is a cafe, circulatory ramp, and meditation space. The concept of personal space bubble was inspired by anthropologist Edward T. Hall’s research on Proxemics, which is an imaginary bubble around oneself to represent the comfortable distances for private and public space. I designed a polar grid and used the Café as the origin. By changing the width and height of the three major spaces and pathways, I am encouraging the tourists to experience and rethink about different levels of social distance through implied space bubbles.
