THE ART COMMUNITY

Leimert Park is a community filled with art and culture. This is something that deeply inspired my design.

This building is designed for young artists and musicians seeking to collaborate and create an art and music community within themselves.
The vast amount of open space, gives the artists a large area where they can collaborate. In addition, the use of the Co-Op allows musicians to go to Kristie’s music and performance venues. In the building itself, most of the units are 5 and 4 bedroom in order to encourage this collaboration amongst residents.

This site is located in a corner lot which is what inspires my triangular shaped units. The gallery and the market are given an inverse corner shape and are oriented towards another building related to its program. This inverse corner and orientation pulls the community into the space which encourages pedestrian traffic.

Lastly, the use of the glass façade allows pedestrians to see into the spaces, which causes curiosity and desire to engage.
