Pod to Envelope

The project focuses on using the site as a passageway between the Northeast neighborhood community and the metro line. The streets are blocked off from heavy vehicular traffic to create a promenade that will enrich the already existing cultural experience around the site. The project developed from the angled placement of the basketball courts which created a “directional” passage in plan between the neighborhood and the metro. Additionally, this design approach allowed for the creation of “pods” in between the basketball courts which will be served as an urban park/plinth for various social and physical activities. The idea of the pods translates to the first floor and a diagrid envelope system is used to create a systematic/sectional relationship between the pods while providing an enclosure for the basketball courts.
