ARCH 402B: Architectural Design IV Gallery: Co-location Community Library + Housing Prototype for Los Angeles

MLK LIBRARY + APARTMENTS

Located at 800 Martin Luther King Blvd. in Los Angeles, the MLK Library + apartments offers an exciting and open library space for the neighborhood while also offering a housing solution for homeless veterans. Adjacent to Exposition Park, this site lends itself to various commercial and entertainment opportunities that could not be found anywhere else around Los Angeles. Because of the resurfacing of the Exposition Park parking lots in the future, there would be various park areas and walking surfaces that would be able to service the residents of the building and the surrounding context. The library will also offer various services for veterans and also for homeless people around the surrounding neighborhood. This site also allows itself to be expanded toward Vermont Ave. for phasing of future projects that would help revitalize MLK Blvd.
