ARCH 302A: Architectural Design III Gallery: Speculations on Co-living and Collective Housing

Live | Work | Dwell

This project aims to facilitate co-habitation amongst its dwellers through the utilization of shared spaces for dwelling and work. Using a concentric design each layer surrounds a central courtyard that provides ample lighting to the common spaces. Layers of shared dwelling and individual living are divided by a continuous line of work zones. Each layer is divided using sliding mechanisms of doors and curtains that divides and connects areas.

The project also exhibits a number of retail locations, a gallery, a multi-use performative space, and a community outreach center.

This project is intended for single individuals that are community oriented and work locally. 20% of living units are dedicated to LGBTQ+ youths as transitional housing. The open design facilitates both security and surveillance for these youths.
