ARCH 302B: Architectural Design III Gallery: Re-thinking the LA industrial vernacular and the long span tradition

Development of this project was inspired by aircraft semi-monocoque frame systems. This influenced the design of a more weightless and sleek long-span truss form. These trusses are organized along a grid that define movement on the site and within the structure. The above ground form continues to be expressed below grade with dramatically sloped surfaces. At its corner the prominent cantilevers are met with protruding benches reminiscent of the full circle form emerging from below.
