Interactive Pavilions

The project explores the concept of houses in the city vs. city in the house to respond to the inactive context in Leimert Park. There are stable pavilions fragmented and floating where people gather the most. And there are in-between fluent spaces that fluid platforms start to integrate everything and make the ambiguous boundaries between levels. The identity of the neighborhood is brought into the intervention through alternating materials with different levels of translucency to express experiential qualities. The primary structure is based on the tensegrity system in which there’s a self-equilibrium in compression and tension to attain maximum lightness.
