ARCH 302B: Architectural Design III Gallery: Re-thinking the LA industrial vernacular and the long span tradition

Green Gables

Situated in the South LA neighborhood of Leimert Park, this final proposal for a community center establishes a new local typology in the spirit of LA’s industrial long span tradition. After studying Los Angeles precedents, I had the opportunity of to develop a structural prototype that explored how structure, space, and envelope become one. Although that structural prototype did not make it into the final project, this final shed typology takes many of the key features and qualities examined in that prototype and adapt it to be more contextual in this neighborhood setting. Although, this community center programmatically is similar to other proposals the addition of community gardens on the second floor seeks to serve as not only an educational tool but a community resource in this dense urban environment.
