Continuous Movement

The Oakwood Community Center aims to create a communal and holistic space that embraces the community and the Oakwood park through the usage of a central courtyard and a spiral processional pathway enveloping it. The main façade on California Ave. is activated through an aperture-like-funnel, inviting visitors through the underside of the building and through to the park. The central courtyard acts like a nexus, deliberately allowing a transparent relationship with each façade to interact with one another. This typology allows for a continuous transition on to the second floor with privacy and a sonic gradient taken into consideration.
