Chained Commune

Chained Commune is an affordable Co-op housing project that enhances the artistic culture within Leimert Park. The Chained Commune mainly hosts local low-income artists and visiting artistic workshop leaders. With a gallery, the first floor is mainly composed of public program with its main entrance at the corner and the private entrance to the South side. The residential units in the upper two floors and the public program on the first floor are organized in a chain like fashion, connecting each unit to its adjacent units through balconies and storage to create one large apartment. The structure of the building is made up of walls and beams that create an interlocking grid system that holds up each floor separately as if there are three individual structurally sounds pieces stacked on top of each other.
