ARCH 302A: Architectural Design III Gallery: Speculations on Co-living and Collective Housing

Carved

This co-operative project aims to support students’ lifestyle in Leimert Part Village by sharing common space such as the living room, kitchen, and dining area. The ground floor accommodates fitness, shop, study room, recreational room, and public garden. Void in the middle helps bring natural light into units of the second floor and facilities of the ground floor. Four pathways cut the second level into four blocks that rotate 90 degrees from each other to create a windmill-shaped layer. The third floor concept is similar to the second floor with the pathways extended in the opposite direction. The alternation of the upper floors creates gaps that serve as shared and individual outdoor spaces.
