A Climber’s World

I created a space for a rock climber to use to engage in athletic and personal activities daily. I did this through an overarching grid system that changes in levels to intimately connect them with nature, their peers, and their work. The format of this site creates a balance within a climber’s lifestyle by having 2 separate experiences on opposite ends, the solid, secluded underground and the lively climbing structures tied together by a multipurpose framework that is spread throughout the site. By providing private space that compliments the self-driven and thoughtful nature of these athletes as well as developing the sense of community with this bond of being active and connected with the natural world, individuals are able to find a sense of comfort and freedom while interacting with the architecture.
