The Wildcard

International student housing at the USC village developed from the game of ‘”Monopoly Deal.” The “wildcard” is a move that brings about surprising and unexpected outcomes to the game.

The housing designed keeping two fundamental rules of the game in mind i.e :
-stack common property cards to win
-play wildcards to the center to mix up the game outcomes

The housing is a stack of private mini-apartment units for graduate students.
The funicular vault provides a replacement for the public space replaced by the housing development. The vault is brick clad. It interprets the surrounding USC village aesthetic playfully. The top of the vault is a walkable floor for people to climb and congregate.
