Utopic and Crisis Forms

This architecture thesis framework draws inspiration from the work of architects that sought to re-envision society in visionary projects in response to historic social crises. The thesis projects began with analyses of the following precedents: Helix City, Kisho Kurakawa; New Babylon, Constant Nieuwenhuys; No-stop City, Archizoom ; Reversible Destiny, Arakawa + Gins; Twelve Cautionary Tales/Twelve Ideal Cities, Superstudio; Ville Spatiale, Yona Friedman. The precedent analysis and individual project was furthered by three studies (analogue, antithesis, and wild-card) which encouraged students to take a position relative to the precedent in the development of their thesis.
