ARCH 102B: Architectural Design I

Drawing Diaries

Building on the first year design studio brief, ‘Drawing Diaries’ focuses on the reflexive role of representation in the production of architecture. Predicated on the assumption that each tool, software, or mode of representation operates within its own language, the studio celebrates the incompatibility of the process as the architectural object migrates from one medium to another. Through this iterative translation–between 3D modeling software, orthographic drawings, paraline projection techniques, and physical model-making craft–the projects is understood as an index of its own making where the anomalies, misalignments, glitches or errors that emerge reveals the possibilities as well as the limitations of architectural production.
